Our Mission

Social Media Aspirin™ for Writers and Authors is here to reduce the pain often associated with social media!

If you already have a headache from social media, we’re your pain-reducing aspirin.

If you feel like breaking up with social media but know you can’t, we’re that bowl of ice cream to get you through it.

If you just need a little push, we’re your cheerleaders. We may yet invent virtual pompoms.

The Journey to Social Media Aspirin™ for Writers and Authors

In 2011, Melody Jones became aware that her fellow writers and authors did not understand what social media was all about, why they should be using it, or how to manage it. They were completely overwhelmed. Thus parent company Social Media Management Services LLC was born.

For several years, SMMS managed the social media presence of numerous writers and authors, provided individual coaching services, conducted in-person and virtual workshops, and presented programs at conferences.

Melody noticed a few themes after countless conversations with authors and writers: they loved being connected with writing colleagues, and they wanted a way to learn how to use social media effectively without breaking the bank.

Please note the community is not currently open for new members.

Cue the Social Media Aspirin™ for Writers and Authors interactive online community! Writers and authors gather together with a shared purpose – learning social media – while talking about what they love: writing. And Melody loves every minute of it. Her passions – writing, authors, and social media – all come together in one endeavor.

I am a Colorado native raised in the small town of Palisade on the western side of the state. Being raised in a small town was a blessing, and I have long-term friendships today that were established in second grade. I recognize the value of growing up in a rural area surrounded by open space, animals, friendly neighbors and a relaxed pace, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Here is a photo of where I grew up, straight up this Palisade, Colorado street at the base of the Book Cliffs.

I earned a degree in psychology from Mesa State in Grand Junction, CO. My first career was in social work where I worked with at-risk youth emancipating from the foster care system. It was an environment rich with a wide variety of personalities, temperaments, and backgrounds, both with clients and with colleagues. My roles included teaching independent living skills, facilitating group sessions, training colleagues and foster parents, creating and utilizing curricula, and a whole lot of writing.

Early on, I discovered an aptitude and talent for writing. My writings and poetry are published in an anthology titled Stories Gathered at the Kitchen Table: A Collection of Women’s Memoirs. Check out the video below of me reading one of my poems. I was with all the authors of our book at the best bookstore anywhere, The Tattered Cover. It takes a little courage to put your stuff out there!

Other stuff: love beagles, coffee, reading, writing, camping in the Colorado Rockies, and going to festivals of all kinds.
