As you know, changes are always happening in the world of social media. We have a lot to keep up with!

Twitter announced in a recent blog post titled “Now on Twitter: 140 Characters for Your Replies”, that Mentions (@usernames) will no longer count towards your 140 character replies. Additionally, the replies will also look different and not begin with the @username of the person you are replying to. Twitter keeps rolling out new ways to make the platform more appealing to use. I wonder what they’ll change next?

In an article written by The Hollywood Reporter, they explain that Instagram Stories is taking over Snapchat Story’s popularity. The article titled “Instagram Stories Surpasses Snapchat with 200 Million Users” states that in just the 8 months that Instagram Stories has been active, it has surpassed Snapchat and continues to be on the rise. Instagram Stories might be the better way to reach your audience now. Facebook owns Instagram and continues to be competitive when it comes to imitating the bells and whistles of other social media platforms.

In AdWeek’s Social Pro Daily article titled “If Social Media Flunks Your Brand, Try Native Advertising”, there is an eye-opening discussion about traditional advertising versus the use of social media. It goes into the benefits of shifting from social to native advertising to help promote struggling brands. This might seem counterintuitive to what everyone believes is working well in 2017, but there is some truth behind the notion that not every niche is a good fit for social media.

As you know, changes are always happening in the world of social media. We have a lot to keep up with!

In AdWeek’s recent blog titled “How Hotels Can Fill Their Rooms Via Twitter” they highlighted 4 different marketing strategies that hotels can utilize to help boost business. They also included ways to connect with their communities and other tips that can be applied to other businesses as well.

In January Instagram announced that they would be offering ad features to the stories of 30+ businesses. They have now extended this feature to all businesses of every size around the world. Instagram goes into great detail regarding what this new opportunity offers  in their announcement  “Instagram Stories Ads- Now Available for all Businesses Globally”.

Google announced two new Hangouts available for companies and businesses early this month. In their blog titled “Meet the New Hangouts” they introduce Hangout Meet and Hangout Chat. Hangout Meet is designed for video conference calls where Hangout Chat is for separate chat rooms to discuss projects and topics. Google’s blog explains the two new systems in great detail and how they can serve your business.

Facebook has announced in their blog titled “Facebook Live Updates for Mentions” that they have made some changes to the format of their Mentions platform to improve the quality of Facebook live events. These new updates are designed to allow the person that is going live to plan ahead, moderate comments, view the status of their broadcast in real time, and trim their video afterwards, if desired.

Pinterest released their Pinterest 100: Top Ideas to Try in 2017. This collaborative list was created using the top saved and shared pins of 2016. The list predicts what will be the popular trends of 2017 and is a useful tool for business owners to keep in touch with their customers and their interests. Plus, it’s just plain interesting to see what made the Top 100!

Twitter created a list of examples of how Fortune 500 companies chose to leverage Twitter to create positive results and accomplish goals. Adweek outlined some of these strategies in their recent blog post Success Stories from Twitter’s Front Lines. These annual insights are great for planning your own social media marketing for 2017.
