Tips for Building Your Local Tribe

Social Media Breakfast

Finding your tribe can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your career. I worked in the online social media and blogging space for several years before I began to realize that local does matter. If you are trying to find your tribe and struggling, here are some tips to help you get started.

JOIN YOUR LOCAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Your local Chamber of Commerce not only offers programming to help you grow your business, but it also gives you great networking opportunities. This is where you can meet business owners in the community and find out what their needs are. After all, your success depends on your ability to find the solution for the needs of your clients. Depending on your skill set, you may even find yourself teaching a class through your local Chamber of Commerce.

JOIN A SOCIAL MEDIA BREAKFAST CLUB

Social Media BreakfastSocial media is a passion of mine and we did not have a social media breakfast club in North Iowa. So, I took the bull by the horns and started one. We started out with three people sitting around a table in a local coffee shop. Now, we meet monthly and average 50 people per meeting. The beauty of the North Iowa Social Media Breakfast Club is that there is no attendance taken, no dues and folks can attend when it works into their busy schedules. Social media breakfast clubs are great, as they bring people of all businesses together, with a common interest being social media. Want to start a social media breakfast club? Set up a meeting at a local coffee shop and watch the magic happen.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteer opportunities within your community offer you the ability to meet new people and learn a new task along the way. Social media is a passion of mine and I love speaking with local high school students in the area. We talk about being an entrepreneur and what marketing looks like in the current year. Find a place you can volunteer to share your passion, you will be rewarded in ways you never imagined.

You will build your local tribe when you take the necessary steps to make things happen. Things do not just happen, it takes hard work, dedication and a desire to be successful. Be the go-to person in your community and watch the tide rise. Businesses will grow, entrepreneurs will thrive and your local tribe will be your biggest community cheerleaders.
