Top Three ThursdayWelcome to my Thursday feature. Here’s where I link three useful and interesting articles from excellent information sources all about social media and marketing subjects.

As you know, changes are always happening in the world of social media. We have a lot to keep up with!

Instagram has announced that Shopping Is Coming to Instagram. The site recently announced a new mobile commerce test in the U.S. They are using a group of 20 well known retailers as their test group to provide a more in depth interaction with their customers. A “tap to view” button is added to the retailers photo which then allows the viewer to see the brand and cost of an item and offer a way to buy those products. Instagram’s hope is to eventually extend this new feature to other companies down the line.

Twitter Adds New DM Tools for Brands as a new feature for businesses in their direct messaging options. PC Magazine tells us that businesses can now set up automated direct messages to their followers. These new options offer Welcome Messages and Quick Replies to interact with their customers and initiate communication without having to rely on the followers to do so first. Twitter estimates that when a customer interacts with the business directly, they are more willing to spend between 3-20% more in products and services in the future.

Pinterest Adds Three New Types of Promoted Pins to advertisers on the popular social platform, according to Social Times. There are three new options, video pins, one-tap pins, and app pins. Social Times explains the purpose of each of these new features in the article. In the past, Promoted Pins have only been offered in the U.S., but have now been extended to the U.K. Pinterest hopes to extend to other countries in the near future. This will broaden advertising options for businesses and make their content easier for their audience to view.

LinkedIn is diving into the video marketing arena. On Tuesday, the social media site opened up the 30-second video option to more than 500 influencers. David Cohen from Adweek.com has the scoop in “LinkedIn Allows Influencers to Create 30-Second Videos”.

This one is for the Instagram users. Have you seen the ‘Instagram Stories’ feature yet? You should definitely check out “Instagram Launches New Feature That’s Exactly Like Snapchat Stories”. Andrew Hutchinson from Social Media Today gives you the reasons behind the bold move and offers a step-by-step guide on setting one up yourself.

In the past few months we’ve watched multiple social media sites move to video options for marketing. Don’t let videos intimidate you. They don’t have to be a large and expensive production. I scoured the ‘net for a great starting guide on making short videos, and I think I found it! Donna Moritz from Socially Sorted shares “5 Ways to Get Started with Short Video, even if it Freaks You Out”. What do you think of this push for video marketing? Let us know in the comments!

As you know, changes are always happening in the world of social media. We have a lot to keep up with!

Snapchat is changing the way they do business. Christopher Heine from Adweek.com tells us that “Snapchat Just Revealed a New Feature Called ‘Memories’ That Saves Snaps.” It’s a collage-like function that allows users to save posts—still photos or videos—and edit them for use in a story collage. They’ll be rolling it out selectively over the next month or so. With over 150 million daily users, a staggered release makes sense.

Are you having trouble with engagement and positive responses to your LinkedIn profile? There may be a reason. Melonie Dodaro from Top Dog Social Media fills us in on the “5 Things You Should Avoid Posting on LinkedIn.” She goes on to list four types of posts that can help you stand out and improve engagement.

Have you noticed a change to your Facebook page layout? Facebook is now Testing a New, Ad-Free Desktop Page Layout to align with their mobile page re-design they released last September. Social Media Today showcases the new format which separates the profile picture from the cover photo, and makes the call to action button clearer. Two new formats are being tested. Which variation do you prefer?
